Clonmel Borough District Mayor Visits Peoria
The Friends of Clonmel received a special guest at the Irish Derby event. Mayor Martin Lonergan, of the newly formed Clonmel Borough District, was on hand to join in the festivities. Mayor Lonergan represents not only Clonmel, but Cahir and several other small communities in South Tipperary County.
In the United States on other business, Mayor Lonergan made time in his schedule to visit Peoria. While here for his brief visit, the Mayor was hosted and entertained by FOC President, Betty Rohman and her husband Larry. Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis and West Peoria Mayor Jim Dillon officially welcomed Mayor Lonergan to Peoria at the FOC Irish Derby. The attendance by the three mayors certainly added to the evening. The following day Mayor Lonergan participated in a tour of Peoria and and St. Philomena School. St. Philomena School is establishing a twinning relationship with St. Mary’s Christian Brothers School in Clonmel. Jimmy’s Bar in West Peoria, held an informal reception to welcome the mayor and give him the opportunity to meet and greet more sister city supporters. Mayor Lonergan resumed his official duties the following day in Washington DC.
FOC would like to thank Mayor Lonergan for taking the time to come to Peoria and we look forward to positive relationships with him and the new administration in the coming year.
